Ambassador For Youth Academy
The Ambassador for Youth Academy is founded on the belief that…
When adults form positive connections with youth it results in neighborhoods that are better for kids…and safer for adults.
To date we have successfully graduated a total of 105 adults from our Ambassadors for Youth Academies. Our alums are diligently working in the community to make a difference in the lives of youth on a daily basis. Our last Academy was held in the Frogtown/Summit U neighborhood and took place from March 22nd through May 10th, 2011 at the Martin Luther Recreation Center. Participants discussed youth identity development, the role of adults in establishing community behavior norms and standards, strategies for making connections with youth, how adults can use their experience and knowledge to make a difference in the lives of youth, places for youth to connect in the Frogtown/Summit U neighborhood, and resources that are available to meet the needs of youth in Saint Paul and Ramsey County.
All participants developed action plans – some for how they WILL BECOME an Ambassador for Youth in their community – and for others how they will BUILD ON their existing plans to positively engage with youth in their community. St. Paul Youth Services continues to connect with alumni on ways to help them make their action plans succeed.
The Spring 2012 Ambassadors for Youth Academy will be held on Saint Paul’s Westside at the El Rio Recreation Center located at 179 E. Robie Street, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55107, on Tuesday evenings, April 10 through May 29, 2012 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm.

Hi, I am a teacher at a high risk charter school in St. Paul. I have a student who is a wonderful creative writer, and is really interested in joining a group where she can share her work with other teens. I have found a couple in Minneapolis, which look great, but are difficult to get to by bus. Do you know of any organizations or safe meet-up groups for teen writers in St. Paul?
Thanks for any information you can provide.
~Sara~
I don’t know of any right off the bat. But I’ll check in with some folks and see what I can learn.
One person who might have some ideas is Regina Harris who runs The Doorway with St. Paul Public Library. Her phone number is 651-757-0988.
